Defiance 2.06 (SPOILERS!)

I have to say: James Murray gets a lot of the great, angsty scenes in Defiance. Squee!

First of all: his boss, Viceroy Mercado, is back and wants him to go retrieve a source of energy from
an ark that has just crashed near Defiance. Together with Pottinger's "best friend": Nolan.

Then he and Nolan squabble about who's in charge of the mission.

Hiking through the woods Pottinger and Nolan get time to bond, though. ;-)
Pottinger tells Nolan he saved Churchill, the Bioman, and "raised" him, just like Nolan saved and
raised Irisa (what?!)
No wonder the actors, tweeting during the episode, started to ship Pottinger/Churchill and
Pottinger/Nolan *g*

In the ark Nolan saves Pottinger from falling down.
They learn the ship is transporting an alien creature, called Gulanee.

Back at the car they notice that their escort has been killed by the Gulanee. Pottinger, Nolan
and Churchill are the sole survivors.
They decide to take down the alien with an improvised weapon (like the Defiance actors
tweeted: A-Team scene!)

Inside the ark again: whilst Nolan is trying to make the weapon, he asks Pottinger to distract the
Gulanee. Pottinger doesn't know how. Then he asks Churchill to do it, knowing the poor Bioman
will die. Heartbreaking scene. *sniff*

I'm so glad JM is on the right side of this porthole this time, but meep for Churchill!

And back in Defiance Viceroy Mercado keeps pestering poor Potty!
He even assigns him to the Dakotas for his "failed" recovery of the Gulanees.

Pottinger drowns his sorrow in the NeedWant, toasting with Amanda and Nolan on Churchill. Aww.
SO IS THIS THE LAST WE SAW OF POTTINGER?!
(Rest assured: according to the synopsis of the S2 episodes he's at least in episode 10).

Date: 2014-07-25 07:15 pm (UTC)Pottinger is in ep 10, and hopefully in more than that.
It would be a shame if he was written out, because his character is great and such a huge part of the plot line this season.

Date: 2014-07-27 10:08 am (UTC)Poor Churchill! (The trailer did give it away...) I'm glad that Pottinger was geniunely sorry about his death.
I'm sure Pot will be back! Sounds like there were some great Nolan and Niles moments on their road trip
Thanks for the lovely screencaps! (And whew re the round window bit!)

Date: 2014-07-27 01:21 pm (UTC)Poor Potty was heartbroken, but it showed the two sides of him (cruel and sensitive at the same time).
I wonder if JM had a deja vu when he had to watch through the window. *g*

Date: 2014-07-28 09:14 pm (UTC)I really, really hope he gets back (and not just to get killed). I was dubious about his character (I thought he was going to be the typical nasty baddie), but JM has done a great job, he did some great angsty scenes and made Pot more human and complex.

Date: 2014-07-29 12:41 pm (UTC)I sincerely hope he's more than in one episode from now on and that he doesn't die. Pottinger is a very intriguing character and JM does such a wonderful job portraying him. IMO he's the centre of S2.
