Bali is beautiful. A pity it's so far away (a 17 hour flight). The people are friendly, the food is delicious.
We (my sister, brother-in-law and I) were there during the wet season, so we had our share of rain, but it didn't spoil our fun (our  the fact that we all got a sun burn LOL).

The first day we saw a Balinese funeral ceremony. We were allowed to take pictures:

A Barong dancer:

Temples

Sawas (rice fields) and villages:

Hindu offerings. People put these everywhere, especially on the pavements and streets:

An Ogoh Ogoh statue, part of the Nyepi ceremony, the day of complete silence and start of the Balinese new year:

Good heavens! What amazing pics. That just looks wow. Oops to the sunburn, but goodness, it looks worth it.
Thanks for sharing! I could have looked at 100 more *g*

The holiday was amazing.
It turned out I'm allergic to sunscreen lotion, so I had to stay out of the sun, but I got a little sun burn in my face after all (and massive allergy reactions). So my next destination won't be near the equator ;-)

Cripes!! Poor you! *hugs*
Yep, we've had allergies (mild) to some suncreams, so I'm quite cautious now.

We only saw a few temples, but there are many of them. They all look different and are in different surroundings.
We had a lovely time.

The area with the all the rice fields was so peaceful. We could look at the scenery for hours.

OH MY! These pics are lovely, and the country is absolutely beautiful! Nice selection of pics that capture the country's variations and culture beautifully!

I am so glad you got to take this trip with your family and share such wonderful experiences together. We may have to work out a way for you to visit me and then go to Australia together. We can visit kristen_mara and a couple of Twitter friends I have...and see New Zealand, which I've always wanted to see!

Thanks! I just have a very simple camera. My brother-in-law has a very good camera and made gorgeous pictures. He's going to make two copies of a book.

Ooh, that would be my dream vacation! I'd love to meet you, see my friend in Australia, meet kristen_mara and maybe squeezynz in New Zealand!

Wow, so colourful and beautiful. What's Balinese cuisine like?

Thanks!
Balinese food can be very spicy. They have sate (pieces of meat on a stick) with peanut sauce, nasi goreng (fried rice) and a local dish called babi guling (roasted suckling pig). I didn't taste the latter, but I did eat the sate and the nasi goreng a lot.
