“Ow!”

“Ow yourself. Don’t poke your elbow into my bruised ribs,” was Stephen’s response to Connor’s exclamation.

“But you kicked my ankle. That hurts,” Connor pouted. “I thought I was the only one being accident prone.”

“I was trying to protect you! Again!”

“Sorry.” Connor tried his best puppy-dog eyes.

“Okay, put your ankle on a pillow and keep your arms to yourself. Then I put an extra pillow behind my back.”

They fussed and shuffled a bit, until they were in a comfortable position.

 Although they couldn’t hold each other like they used to, both men finally fell asleep.
