 “Tell me about the time you served in the Gulf Wars.”

They were in bed, snuggling and talking.

“Why?”

“I want to hear about the good and the bad. And I want to hear more about your past.”

“Well, it definitely wasn’t a fairy tale from Arabian Nights. And you, of all people, should know there’s not just good or bad, black or white, considering your history with Helen. There’s lots of grey.”

“I know!” Stephen punched Ryan softly. “But I want to hear about it.”

“I’ll tell you. But no bedtime story tonight. Let’s watch The Hurt Locker instead.”

I can see Ryan being very reluctant to share stories like that with civilians. It's definitely a sign of trust that he would tell Stephen about it.
