"Okay, people! Let's come together!" Lester urged the team into the meeting room
"Slow down, guv, slow down," Danny tried to ease his boss. "What's the pressure? Besides, we have to wait for Abby and Connor."
"Do you know where they are?" Nick asked.
"The last time I saw them they were at the menagerie. So they can't be far from here (loin d'ici)," Stephen said. "Abby was mucking out Monty's pen."
"Well, the girl should hurry," Lester fumed.
"Monty is a big animal, sir," Becker said. "Producing a lot of dung. So, no Goodbye shelter for her soon.
"And the girl can't perform a miracle, sir," Claudia expressed her opinion, with her alter ego Jenny adding: "She can't walk on water."
"I stand corrected," Lester sighed:" But I've been waiting for this night. Finally Professor Cutter and Stephen Hart are going to tell us about their LoveWave with Helen Cutter."
What followed was an embarrassing sound of silence.
"If love was a crime, we'd all be criminals," the usually quiet Lorraine threw out.
Leek burst into the meeting room: "I've looked for them (j'ai cherche), but I can't find them, sir!"
But just a heartbeat later Abby and Connor arrived, out of breath and seemingly distressed.
"Here you are!" Lester sneered. "Say yay, people. Now we can finally begin. But please tell us first why you two are late. Did you two strike midnight gold snogging in the kitchen cupboard?"
"It seems more like they've seen a ghost, sir," Captain Ryan opposed.
"There was an anomaly in the menagerie. Like always it looked like it was made of stars," Connor explained.
"We couldn't resist and went through it," Abby added. "And then we were in 1944."
"We only looked around for a short while, because we didn't want to disturb things and change the timeline," Connor said.
"Luckily it was easy to find the anomaly again. It was like a lighthouse in the night," Abby's voice quivered.
Lester sighed and pinched his nose. "Next time you want to be a pioneer, warn us."
"If I were sorry, I'd apologise, sir," Connor said. "But anomalies are the colour of your life and we should take every opportunity to examine them."
Lester rolled his eyes.
"But safety first," Ryan helped his boss. "Always go in pairs and let one person in the present time know what's happening. No degree of separation, so you're not alone."
"Thank you for this wise lesson, Captain," Lester said. "More wise lessons from you, Professor Cutter?"
"Just one," Nick said, turning towards Stephen and taking his hand. "Even Helen can't come between us. You are the only one."
